In This Article: An overview of what Compass is, how its seven tabs are organized, and what each area is designed to help you do — including your My Compass homepage, Dashboards, and where to go when you need support.
What Compass Is
Compass is EBM Software's central platform for financial visibility, reporting, and operational management. It brings your dashboards, reports, tasks, file storage, and AI analysis into one place — so your team spends less time chasing data and more time acting on it.
The platform is designed for finance and operations teams who need reliable access to performance information, structured workflows for delivering reports, and secure tools for working with business data. Everything is organized across seven purpose-built tabs, each serving a distinct function in your day-to-day work.
Compass in one line
Your data, your dashboards, and your Compass experts — in one secure environment.
How Compass Is Organized
Compass is structured as seven tabs across the top navigation. Each tab is a dedicated area with its own purpose. You'll use some of them daily; others you'll reach for when a specific need arises.
Your personalized homepage — Business Spotlight dashboard, Report Updates, Services for You, and What's New at Compass.
View and build live, interactive performance dashboards built by your team or Compass experts.
Multi-model AI chat for querying your Lakehouse documents, applying personas, and generating grounded business analysis.
Create, assign, and track tasks tied to your reporting cycles to keep deadlines on schedule.
Secure file storage and organization. Upload and manage documents your team works with, including files available to Smith for analysis.
Commission custom reports and specialized deliverables from Compass experts. Track status and receive completed work directly in Compass.
Your My Compass Homepage
My Compass is where you land when you sign in. It's a personalized view designed to surface what's most relevant to you without requiring any navigation first.
Your active dashboard front and center. Quick KPI and chart visibility before you've clicked anything. From here you can explore the full dashboard or create a new one.
A running list of your recent reports — with owner, type (Dashboard or Request), and last-updated timestamp. Tracks what's been delivered and what's in progress.
A curated carousel of Marketplace offerings relevant to your organization — services, reporting packages, and data sets you can request directly.
Articles, insights, and updates published by the Compass team — relevant reads on profitability, business performance, and finance leadership.
The right-hand panel stays consistent across Compass. It shows your open Tasks and Requests in collapsible sections so you can check status without leaving your current view. Below those, Resources links to help content and Support opens the support widget.

Dashboards: Your Reporting View
The Dashboards tab is where your financial and operational data becomes visible. Compass experts build dashboards for your organization based on the reports and metrics you've requested — these appear in your dashboard list ready to view and explore.
You can also build your own dashboards. The canvas lets you arrange and resize charts, switch between chart and table views, and share completed views with your team. Dashboards you create and those shared with you all live in the same place.

Tasks, Requests, and the Lakehouse
Tasks keeps your reporting work organized. Create tasks with a name, folder, due date, detail, and assignee. Tasks link directly to your work in Compass so nothing slips between reporting cycles.
Requests is how you commission work from the Compass team. Submit a request when you need a new dashboard, custom analysis, or a specialized report. You'll track status and receive the deliverable directly in Compass when it's ready.
The Lakehouse is your secure file environment. Upload documents your team works with — financial statements, data exports, reference files — and organize them into folders. Files stored in the Lakehouse are also available as context when using Smith for AI-powered analysis.
Smith: AI Analysis Within Compass
Smith is the AI tab in Compass. It lets you ask questions of your business data using multiple AI models, drawing on documents stored in your Lakehouse for grounded, organization-specific answers. You can also use it as a general AI assistant without any files attached.
Smith supports personas — role configurations that shape how it responds — and a prompt library of pre-built templates for common finance and operations scenarios. Responses stream in real-time and can be exported when needed.

Getting Help
The Support widget is available at the bottom right of every Compass screen. Ask it a question and it will pull from Compass documentation to give you a quick answer. You can also use it to connect with the support team directly, submit a ticket, request a feature, or report a bug.

Compass works best when its parts connect — dashboards make report data visible, tasks keep delivery organized, requests bring in expert work, and Smith helps you analyze it all. Start with My Compass and Dashboards as your daily anchors, then explore the other tabs as your workflow grows. The support widget is always available at the bottom right if you need a hand.
