Release notes: August 2026 – EBM Compass

This release brings a large set of changes to Compass and to Smith inside Compass. The headlines are a reworked Smith panel, a rebuilt usage and billing view, clearer control over which models a project can use, stronger file and folder permissions, and the first phase of notifications.

Everything below is live now. If something here does not match what you see, your project may not have the feature enabled yet, and your administrator can confirm.

Smith inside Compass

The Smith panel is resizable. You can size the panel to suit what you are doing. The separate fullscreen mode has been removed, so resizing replaces it.
Chat history. Past conversations are available from a history drawer and can be managed from there.
A fresh start. Opening Compass resets the chat page rather than resuming mid conversation.
Stop a response. A response that is still generating can be canceled.
Attachment limits are now set centrally rather than fixed in the interface, so the number you can attach may change without an update to this help center.
Long file names in the file drawer now display properly.
The support widget no longer overlaps the chat panel.

Prompts and personas

Create your own prompts. You can write a prompt once, save it, and reuse it. Prompts are managed from a table in My Workspace with filtering and direct actions.
See what a persona does without opening it. A persona's pre-prompt is now shown on its card.
Find personas faster with search, filtering and sorting on the persona table.
Persona selection persists within a conversation. You no longer need to reselect it.

Files and folders

Email and calendar files are supported. You can upload .msg, .eml and .ics files directly.
Consistent upload checks across every place you can upload from.
Filenames show their format.
Permissions are properly enforced. Folder access is respected when uploading into a top level folder, and Editors and Contributors no longer see a delete action on other people's files and folders.
Folder access can be granted from a folder's detail view.
Filter by file type to narrow a long list.
Folders are easier to start and easier to keep track of. Create your first top level folder from the empty state, and folders remember which ones you had expanded.
Choose a real destination. Uploads and moves go into a folder you pick or create.
Large spreadsheets are no longer previewed in full. The file still uploads and can still be used.
Workspace files and uploaded files are listed separately, so it is clear which is which when you attach something.

Models

Three base models are included and are shown as included.
Advanced models are purchased, then activated. Until activated they appear locked.
Advanced models can be deactivated when a project no longer needs them.
Cost indicators make the relative cost of each model visible.
Only activated models are selectable. Project members no longer see models the project has not activated.
Multi-model is off by default. Switch it on to run a prompt across more than one model.

Usage and billing

A usage view with at-a-glance cards.
Breakdown by member and by model.
Usage is calculated month to date.
Alert thresholds with a banner as you approach or pass them.
An administrator controlled usage cap for projects that need a hard ceiling.
A dedicated view for non-billable projects.
Corrected cost display.

Teams and access

A team roster with access control, including on non-billable projects.
Smith access is set per user. Administrators can turn a person's access on or off, with a confirmation step. A user without Smith access cannot use chat.

Notifications

The first phase of notifications is included in this release.

Notifications are on by default.
Dashboard notifications and request notifications are both available.
Renaming a dashboard no longer produces two notifications.

Dashboards

Dashboard creation is available.
Power BI dashboards now display correctly.
Exporting a Table view from Preview no longer drops data for some filtered months.

Getting help

A help menu in Compass now routes you through to this help center, so you can reach guidance without leaving what you are working on.

Speed, reliability and security

This release included substantial performance work, accessibility improvements to typography, a set of responsive layout fixes, and security hardening on internal interfaces. Onboarding now opens on a target page rather than a generic landing point.
